Leuca is the type of kid you want to follow on Instagram. And SoundCloud. And YouTube. And pretty much any of his other creative outlets.
First there’s his 2017 EP soul[o], on which he shares his experiences dealing with his alcoholic dad. It’s tagged as uplifting soul and sounds exactly like its description. Soothing vocals on electronic beats that catch your attention from the very start – much like the Tom Misch and Jordan Rakei joints I love to start my day with.
Then there is that two year old song Your Time Is Now, which reminds me of carefree sunny summer days. And his first song Free; a bright rap on a Church-like piano melody. Which is how Leuca got started, rapping in Church in a group called Living For God (LFG).
By now it’s clear that Leuca, real name John Isaiah Welsh, can both sing and rap. Very well.
Plus, he’s in good company with friends like the upcoming singer Xavier Omär fka SPZRKT (whose latest Sango collab is my favorite I’m clearly still not over him track).
And then there’s his Instagram – a collection of fly portraits and #relationshipgoals candids.
Leuca is a cool kid, with a great sense of style and an eye for aesthetically pleasing pictures (which can be seen on his VSCO profile too).
And lastly, his YouTube channel.
Not surprisingly, Leuca’s music videos are noteworthy too. The color palette, the different shots, the angles – it just all works. For which he has his brother slash manager slash music-insider Stephon Beckford and videographer and photographer Peter Hazle to thank for.
Conclusion? Leuca has that total package and a clear “Is there something he can’t do?” vibe. Inspirational, to say the least.
