John Keek | The bright saxophonist that’ll captivate you

Happy new year! It feels good to be back, dusting off hidden SoundCloud gems and working towards making this music platform one that can elevate the careers of MANY promising artists.

To start off the new year perfectly right, I’m introducing you to this amazing Cali kid who I found on Kiefer’s SoundCloud today. His two-month-old debut EP If + When is categorized in the genre alternative and consists of three songs. Sadly, because you’d probably need a lot more John Keek in your life after hearing those three gems.

His music has Kiefer’s keyboard tunes (hence the repost – though the lack of credits makes me doubt this) and hints of Jordan Rakei and James Blake. It has Keek’s sax and that summer-like acoustic guitar fiddling that you could hear on a Tom Misch record too. And let’s not forget features from the beautiful Georgia Anne Muldrow and fellow-Dutch jazz guitarist Reinier Baas.

Keek’s music is refreshing and interestingly layered – a bit of autotune here, some horns there. Which is exactly why I was captivated from the very start. It’s jazzy, soulful and perfect background music on long evenings grindin’ to make your new year’s resolutions happen. What do you think?
