Dublin has a lot of good things going for them. Like my best friend having moved there to work for Google, future sound radio show Souletiquette, 1-800-SOFT-BOY hip hop producer and self-proclaimed all-round cutie KOJAQUE, and twenty-something hip hop trio Hare Squead. The latter which I will rave about today.
But first, Hare Squead? Admittedly, I didn’t make it past Hare when I first tried to pronounce the band’s name. Hare Squead, pronounced Hair Skwed, is Square Head mixed around, like how the guys used to rock their hair. Rappers Tony Konstone, Lilo Blues (fka E-Knock) and singer Jessy Rose met in 2013 while practicing one-eighties, but soon realized they had more in common than merely flipping boards.
The guys joined forces and started Hare Squead, a wavey hip hop group with pop influences and R&B hooks. They released “If I Ask” last year June and brought back summer when they came out with the amazing hit “Herside Story” mid-November. A summer jam that didn’t stay unnoticed and put Hare Squead’s career in a whirlwind. D’Anthony Carlos, better known as rapper Goldlink, used the song for his own remake and added it to his latest album “At What Cost” and Hare Squead will be spreading their joy on a handful of festivals this summer. Now that’s what I call making moves.
