I’m currently catching up with friends and family in The Netherlands, attending festivals to see legends like Usher, The Roots, Mac Miller, Nas, Stormzy, AJ Tracey, Joss Stone and SO many more. So it only seemed appropriate to feature a Dutch artist I recently stumbled upon.
His name is Giorgio Oehlers, a Rotterdam-based beatmaker who’s also a freelance cinematographer, video editor, pianist, Dilla lover and master of the BS Fulltorque. The jack-of-all-trades is so talented, I haven’t figured out if I like his video productions, chill beats or the fact that he retweets pro-stretch mark quotes more.
The Darker Than Wax producer just released his EP “‘EGO’ And The Art of Letting Go”; a reflection on the tenuous relationship between ego, creativity, and crafting a truly personal vision through art. A project Oehlers created purely for himself, without being influenced by the heavyweight called external pressure. A project that shows his creative mind at best. A project that feels like a jungle of sounds, where different styles are tangled up in one another, perfectly wired together to form a four-track EP that sparks curiosity. I would have loved to be there when Oehlers built these sounds, as I have no doubt it’s an inspiration to see this groovy beatmaker in action.
