If I would have a record label, Allysha Joy would be, hands down, the first artist I would sign. The jazzy singer normally spreads good vibes with her hip hop family 30/70 in Melbourne music venues but is currently also working on her solo debut. A hint of what that might sound like can be heard in her intimate, groovy collaborations with beatmaker, producer, and backup whisperer SO.Crates and keyboardist, pianist, and composer Billy Davis. Both are smooth features that will fill your heart with joy and an intense yearning for lazy summer days in the park.
Her weathered voice is filled with great depth and a touch of rawness. Names like Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Kelis, Ella Eyre, and Dionne Bromfield*, might come to mind when comparing this pure soul, though her timing and sound are truly one of a kind.
* There is another artist that has an almost identical voice, but after 30-minutes cracking my brain I gave up. Help!
